An LBD and a white shoe

Category: Retail TherapyMinay @ 5:41 pm

Remember the LBD from Pink Manila which I bought from Greenhills?  Here it is as worn:

I have no idea why my arms and legs are so white in this picture, in contrast to my brown face! hahaha. Anyway, here’s a view of the back of the dress.

Sadly, the dress didn’t fit as well as I thought it would; the waist was too high.

I’ve been taking out some of my more dressy clothes for a test run since it’s been while since I’ve donned dressy clothes. I worked for a long time for a sports magazine and I’ve accumulated a lot of running shoes, sports attire, and the lone pair of grappling gloves. Hahaha. I recently switched jobs which would require me to wear more business and semi-formal clothes which I’m really lacking so I’ve been building a whole new wardrobe. I’m really excited about this job since it also entails quite a lot of traveling which I love to do.

Also, I’m spearheading my own shopping magazine now! Watch out for it! I’ll post the cover here once I get everything all sorted out.  :D

Different

Different

The picture above reflects the reason why I changed… uhhh… “circumstances” lately. In my previous circumstance which I’m proud to get out of, I felt like a white shoe with a bit of bling in a sea of dull dull dull shoes. This picture was taken while walking around Marikina expo. :)

Wing it

Category: Retail TherapyMinay @ 12:19 am

If you have noticed in my rare photos I post of myself, I usually wear a necklace with a wings pendant. It’s kind of my signature accessory. Here’s me with my friends wearing one of my angel wings necklace:

We make a pretty trio don't you think? :)

We make a pretty trio don't you agree? :)

Here’s the necklace at close-up, it was bought in eBay around 2007 I think.

This one might look familiar to you, I bought it in Mango Singapore. It’s not angel wings though, it’s a Pegasus wing necklace.

And my latest addition to my Wings family!

Angel Wing earrings... from Quiapo!

This was given to me by my good friend Jill. She knew I had a fascination for angel wings, and believe it or not she bought the wings from Quiapo and then fitted it up with ear hooks (or whatever you call it) for me. I didn’t ask how much it is because that would be rude, but for my readers unfamiliar with Quiapo, it’s not a pretty place to be, but there are a lot of fashion hotspots there (just make sure to keep your wallets close to you).

Anyway, it’s Monday again tomorrow (ugh!), I bought a new jacket (bad! I know!), and a pair of shoes today but I’ll save that for another post. I have so many overdue posts! But I think I’ll have time to catch up on my blog posts next week. Til then, have a great week! :)

Angels in the workshop

I took this picture last year methinks. Me and my family went to Pampanga and stopped by a workshop where they make statues that you see in churches. I took a couple of pics in colored, and a couple in black and white. Here’s one of the shots I took in the latter.

The Perfect White Shirt

For as long as I remember, I’ve always loved white shirts. It’s easy to pair with anything! A white shirt with my favorite jeans paired with spiky heels and I instantly have a grunge-glam look. Paired with my favorite rubbershoes, and I get the sporty chic look. A white tee with a boyfriend blazer and leggings… the possibilities are endless! Not to mention, it’s so easy to accessorize a white shirt.

But it’s hard to look for THE perfect white shirt. The ones in tiangges just don’t have the right cut or made of terrible material that it practically falls apart after one wash. Then there was Get Laud! which offered cheap plain blouses that seems to be made of stronger stuff, but I got annoyed with the discrepancies with the sizes and the materials after a while. But kudos to them for providing chic dresses in such affordable prices.

I have tons of white shirts. Two of which came from Get Laud!, a v-neck one which I bought from a tiangge (bazaar), and here’s one that I bought from Cotton On in Singapore. It’s plain, but I really like how it fits me in the right places.

The thing with Cotton On clothes, it’s so simply styled but the fit is so amazing that you’d wish you have a branch in your country. Huhuhu. Like me. If I get the moolah to franchise a clothing business, it would be Cotton On. I wish I had the cash to shop during the time we were there, but I only bought the shirt because I was just disposing my remaining SG$. :(

My sister really liked the stuff we bought for her from Cotton On. I don’t have a picture of the clothes, but one of the tops that we bought are in their website

cottonon

See the floral top that the girl is wearing? That was the design of one of the tops we bought. Also, they have these great deals such as you buy two boyfriend shirts for S$40, but if you buy only one you have to pay the retail price of S$25 each. And if you reach a certain amount, you can buy a pair of shades or flip flops for S$5! I promise I’ll franchise this brand in the distant possibility I’ll get rich enough to do so.

Cotton On also has a lingerie line that borders more on quirky/sexy rather than Victoria’s Secret romantic/seductive style. I seriously wanted to buy this nightie with a comic design but I had to choose between that or the Mango bag. The latter won. I seriously regret it up til now.

Anyway, it’s nice that we have a local brand here in the Philippines which offers plain and designed tees made with quality material but without the high tag price, namely The Perfect White Shirt. If you’re Pinoy, I’m sure you’ve seen their shirts around.

Yes, I’m a Proud Thomasian. Hehe. I have a couple of their plain tees as well. I recently featured them here. As a thank you, they kindly sent me these

The story of how creators Ryan and Philippe formed The Perfect White Shirt venture is really cool so click the link above to read about it. It’s amazing how DOING SOMETHING NICE FOR YOUR GIRLFRIEND CAN PRODUCE A LUCRATIVE BUSINESS! Hahaha.

Of Angels, Pegasus, and Mango

Category: Retail Therapy, UncategorizedMinay @ 9:53 am

I’ve always loved the androgynous look and has been going for that look for a while now without noticing it. Here was my outfit today:

White shirt from tiangge (P100), slacks from Bangkok, Zara shoes (S$99), Serengetti shades (no idea, it's twice my age!), Mango Pegasus Wing Necklace S$19

White shirt from tiangge (P100), slacks from Bangkok, Zara shoes (S$99), Serengetti shades (no idea, it's twice my age!), Mango Pegasus Wing Necklace S$19

Here’s a close-up view of the shoes: shoesI usually partner this type of outfit with the oversized blazer I bought last year for P300 in some nameless bazaar. Its cut is similar to boyfriend blazers but when I bought it, it was just an overrun, oversized blazer that my mom hated. Haha. I’ll post it next time. Anyway, I usually nick my brother’s belt (his polos, his shirts; he in turn nicks my sports watches) when he’s not using it because it pulls the outfit together. Anyway, the gremlin was using it, so no belt.

My boyfriend’s cleaned out their garage a couple of months ago and they found the shades I’m wearing in the picture. It belonged to his grandpa who died. I don’t mind. They loved their grandpa a lot. Along with the Serengetti shades, he also gave me vintage RayBans and a Perry Ellis pair. But that story is for another post.

The pegasus wing necklace immediately caught my attention in Mango while we were walking around Suntec. Yes, it’s S$19, a lot of money for a fake bling, but it was originally priced S$35, and I really really have a fascination for jewelry that resembles angel wings. I also saw a pair of delicate angel wings earrings in Aldo for S$13, but it looked TOO delicate.

The pegasus wing is kind of too-big for my taste, but I still love it! To complete the look I strapped on a watch from Tomato. It’s cheap! I bought it in Tomato two months ago I think, and they had these strappy watches with big faces. Don’t expect though that the watches are durable. The one I bought stops for no reason at all once in a while, and the little clock faces within the watch? It’s just for display. haha. :)

Haha. Sorry for the upside down watch.

Here’s my first pair of angel wings necklace bought from ebay two years ago more or less. I can’t remember how much it cost, around US$50, mostly because of the shipping costs.

Angel Wings necklace (approx. $150, eBay)

I’ve used the necklace so much that the coloring has faded. Hay, the shot looks so GREENISH I hate it. But I really suck at taking photos in poorly-lit settings. I manage to hit (shoot?) a jackpot every now and then. Anyhoo, another thing I bought in Mango:

Mango shoulder bag (S$15)

Mango shoulder bag (S$15)

Original price: S$50. This isn’t really my style. I like big bags since I seem to always bring half of our house with me whenever I step out. But It’s just S$15 anyway, and I think I should try to discipline myself with such limited ‘baggage’ space. It’s been said more than once that carrying around big shoulder bags is bad for the health.

This weekend I plan to raid the boyfriend’s closet for literally, boyfriend, outfits. But my boyfriend is a 6-ft, 200+ pound guy, hope I find something. The last time I raided his room, I got me new (vintage) shades.

RayBan shades. I have no idea what the model is, anyone?

I guess that’s it for now. Time to turn in. :)
