Shoes, NOT sandals

Tomorrow is the boyfriend’s birthday. And I’m broke.

But with a little string-pulling, I managed to snag an opportunity to drag him to a Sanuk store in G4 yesterday and announce ‘Choose a pair and it’s yours” hahaha. As much as I wanted to give him a more personal surprise, it’s kind of tricky to buy shoes as gifts. I didn’t want to butt in his ‘choosing process’ so I sat down and mulled over the women’s section. I’ve always wanted a pair from Sanuk, and after two reviews on two pairs of Size 7s which I reasonably gave away afterwards (I’m a Size 8, don’t ask how I managed to write about it), I just put the thought of owning a pair myself at the back of my mind. After all, a pair costs around P2,000 to P3,000.

There was one pair I really liked but I wasn’t able to take a picture of it, and I couldn’t find it in their website. Anyhoo, it was made of warm, chocolate brown velvet-ish material with a bow on the strap. Kind of catholic-school girl loafers kind of look. I did find this one in their website.

It’s a great statement shoe. You throw on a pair of cutoffs and a cute shirt or tank top and pair it with these shoes (oops! sandals I mean) and you don’t have to put on accessories any more. Maybe just a pair of shades. A messy ponytail will top off the rocker casual chic look.

I also like this model, it makes me think of a casual stroll in the mall kind of shoes. Or if I were still a student, something I’d throw on whenever I don’t want to think much of my outfit but still look as if I did.  Plus, plaid is in nowadays. It’s easy to pair an outfit with these:

Khaki shorts and a comfy shirt with these sandals, and maybe a nice brown bag. Something with a belt. It would be nice to wear the Sanuk Mandi on a nice, sunny day.

One reason I really liked that flipflops became vogue and became slowly accepted as part of women’s fashion is because I wear out shoes easily. I do own a couple of flipflops;  some I’ve accrued from events, some for reviews, but they’re always in the wrong size, and I didn’t have it exchanged because it was no biggie for me anyways. Especially since those were giveaways. What I never understood was, why bother calling me to ask me for my size? The only ones who got my size right were the sports shoes people. Moving on, I like these flipflops for its bling and how it instantly makes me think of summer nights.

I have a dress from Analog Soul that will go perfectly with these… hay.

Oh, as for the boyfriend, he asked me to point out a pair I like for him. I pointed a pair that I’ve been eyeing but still told him to still look around for something that he might like and went back to calculating when I can buy a pair for myself.

I really should buy a digicam first (my DSLR is too bulky to lug around everyday). Here’s a pic of the boyfriend trying out a pair for size. Believe me when I say I tried not to influence the boyfriend’s choice but I guess girlfriends know best.

Many Sanuks after, he settled on the pair I pointed out earlier. Hahaha.

The boyfriend is used to driving barefoot, and since Sanuks are easy to slip on and off, this was an ideal pair for him. He wore it for the first time this morning and he said it’s very comfy, plus, it looks great with jeans and a white polo. Yes, time for a digicam.
