Look at this stuff…

Category: Retail Therapy, online shopping is the new evilMinay @ 4:03 pm
Isn’t it NEAT!?!?!

Look closely. It’s a kick-ass cuff bracelet made of pull-up tabs! Yes! The ones we see on soda cans! Yes, this is an overkill of the exclamation point! Yes, my hand is in need of a manicure!

Considering what the bracelet is made of, you’d think it’d be cheap. But it’s P600.00. A lot of moolah, but it’s a lot of help to the people who made it. These are made by women of Smokey Mountain. The infamous mountain of garbage, that I must point out, is no longer there. :)

But there are still poor people living there. :( . Thankfully, organizations such as the Philippine Community Fund are there to help the residents get on their feet ON THEIR OWN. The thing is with extending a helping hand, it’s more reasonable to give people the tools for a sustainable livelihood, rather than just handing them money that will just eventually run out.

Anyway, I won’t get into details of the organization. But here are a couple of the jewelry they also sell:

necklace made from magazines

31-inch necklace made of magazines

double starnd necklace made of magazines

They also sell purses, wallets, and whatnots. All made from “garbage”.

It’s amazing what one can do with a little creativity and imagination. Interested buyers and for more information on PCF may visit their website http://p-c-f.org/index.php , just click on the online shopping for more of their products. From what I know the products are also available at the American Women’s Bazaar held monthly at the World Trade Center.

Until my next post, remember, women should be the ones polygamous in nature, after all, a rose by any other name is still a rose, but one man’s package will always differ from the other. It may be best to point out also that variety is the spice of life! :)

gLee!

Category: EventsMinay @ 10:28 am

At last.

THEY HAVE ARRIVED!

I am a fairly new gLeek as I mentioned in one of my previous posts. But even I felt (and heard) that resounding sigh of relief from gLeeks all over the world last April 14. Facebook and Twitter was abuzz with anticipation and wondering cyberloudly how to sneak out from work to watch the telecast at 4PM.

One had to wonder what people were doing during that trying time of waiting:

  • In Pasay, a man roamed Mall of Asia  waiting for a restaurant that had cable to watch gLee
  • After a few hours, he posted “I am near to buying the only restaurant here that has cable!!!”
  • GLEE!!! – facebook users from my account alone.
  • On real time in fb and Twitterverse – Idina Menzel! Hot Hot Hot!

People seemed to have lost parts of their vocabulary on that fateful day.

But now the long wait is over, and a new season of synchronized singing and dancing begins!

GLEE IS BACK!

So far it was worth it. It was a risky move to keep people waiting. With new shows sprouting right and left and blockbuster movies commanding an instant following (vampires for one), gLee was still worth the wait and attention (and enduring reruns that we already know by heart). Clearly the cast and crew of the hit show made sure to deliver a whole new season to get hooked on.

After just the first half of the season we saw Will find out about Teri’s phantom baby.

(On a side note though, HOW HOT IS WILL?! If male teachers all looked (and moved!) liked that, the educational system would be so much better!)

Doe-eyed guidance counselor Emma was still fighting unrequited love; Rachel was her same OC self beating the path to stardom; Finn discovered that he’s not the father of Quinn’s baby but Puck’s (honestly, I don’t think Quinn would’ve made it bad either way, hehe); Mercedes helped Kurt come to terms with his true self, and Artie opened up to Tina only to find out about her lies.

Oh how can anyone forget about Sue? A regal bitch that we all love to hate but still love! At the time of this writing, people are probably hooked on watching her Madonna video. Her plan to sabotage the gLee club during sectionals failed, but nevertheless ingenious like her.

More stars are on the line-up to make the hit show even more entertaining. Aside from Idina Menzel, the show will have (OMGeee, this is the best part yet) Neil Patrick Harris! Neil Patrick Harris! Neil Patrick Harris! Yes! I intentionally typed his name three times exclamation points included!!! Molly Shannon (Kath and Kim) and Kristin Chenowith (Pushing Daisies) the last nine episodes look to be just as jam-packed with drama, comedy and musical numbers! Included in the back nine is the much awaited Madonna episode which features songs such as “Like A Virgin” and “Vogue”, as well as the first time viewers will see Sue singing and dancing.

Other artists lining up to offer their services include Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake. Glee surely is a musical juggernaut that goes from strength to strength with a musical repertoire that continues to grow.

Catch the primetime telecast of Glee at 8PM on Jack TV and 10PM on ETC.

Jack TV is seen on Destiny Cable Channel 81 and Cable Link Channel 41.

For more information, log on to http://www.jacktv.com.ph

ETC is seen on SBN Channel 21, Sky Cable Ch. 16, Destiny Cable Ch. 28, and Cable Link Ch. 48.

***Where was I when the new episodes premiered? I frantically finished all my business matters early that day because the lovely people of Solar Entertainment invited me to watch the premier at Red Box Greenbelt. Thanks guys. :)

**** (I will do this in every post ok? and can be unrelated to what I posted) With romcoms aplenty, you’d think men would already know how to treat a lady. So men, when in doubt, watch “Gone with the Wind”, just remember to update your wardrobe.

Because the voice in my head sounds like…

Category: I'm a girl, Retail TherapyMinay @ 1:54 pm

…Tim Gunn.

Yes, he is my spiritual boyfriend, and that teeny tiny voice in my head that speaks up when I’m staring at a mound of nacho chips from somebody’s tray and thinking if I should get double the servings just to be sure, extra cheese too.

Simply put, if my brain had twitter, it would be Tim Gunn logging in.

Tim Gunn

Tim Gunn

“Now now dear, remember that divine cream jacket you saw awhile back? Don’t buy it anymore because everyone knows that muffins are only yummy when they’re meant to be eaten, not when you’re described literally shaped like one. Calories always work AGAINST you dear, that being said, how will I tell you to make it work?”

So when I was thinking of captions for a party at Velocity Bar this is what came out:

Everybody looks instantly attractive with a glass of wine in hand

Everybody looks instantly attractive with a glass of wine in hand

I’m not sure if Tim Gunn is the one who said that quote, but it’s his voice I heard when I was typing this!

I haven’t really posted anything about fashion lately. First because uploading is a b!tch. Second, I got a Sun Broadband and I bet it would be more useful as a coffee stirrer than its intended purpose.

Anyhoo, I’ve been going for the androgynous look lately. And no I can’t really post that much photos because like I said Sun Broadband can pass for a glorified coffee stirrer. But in retrospect, it IS unlimited wifi at P799, so I guess you get what you pay for.

I’ve been known to prowl the men’s department store. Not only is it fabulously cheaper, but the salesmen take notice when you ask for assistance in the men’s section. Hahaha. I once tried to ransack my boyfriend’s closet but he’s 6ft tall and I’m 5′4 and the hemming will just kill me. Besides, I can’t remember the last time I picked up a needle and thread. If domesticity had a resume, mine would only say “specializes in push-button cookery”

I bought the suspenders I’m wearing in the picture at SM Department Store. Next hunt will consist of a white racerback to pair it with. Mind you it’s not easy to find a racerback with the fit that I like. But it would be great to pair those suspenders with jeans.

I keep hearing (another) voice inside my head that asks why the hell would I need a pair of suspenders for when I have the hips to hold up my pants anyway, but then a spoken out-loud “EFF’ OFF!!!” usually silences it… along with the people around me. The suspenders by the way, is P349.75 in SM. I also bought a belt there in tan which I pair with khakis. I’ll post pics next time.

You can’t see the pants I’m wearing there, but I bought it at Onesimus (another men’s store which specializes in barong tagalog and suits) for P1,200. For the unfamiliar, a barong tagalog is a formal garment worn by men in the Philippines. Anyway, there are a lot of nice  and even funky slacks that can be found in the men’s department. Men’s slacks in SM can go for as low as P350. I wanted to buy a pair of women’s Alexane slacks in SM for work, and it was P750! It was another reason to hate men and another way to corner the boyfriend into taking me out to dinner “What the hell are you saying?! Your clothes are cheaper than mine (at least in SM), you make more than I do, so why can’t we go out for dinner?!”

Sounds like a pretty good argument eh? eh?

Plus, in the men’s department, you’ll always have to ask for the smallest size they have in stock. Now, THAT’s a perk.

Okay, that’s it. I have to sign off before my coffee stirrer decides to slow down again. Until then, remember, you’d think with so many articles tackling sex in Cosmo, no woman would have to fake the Big O ever!
