‘Tis the season to be broke

Retail Therapy… oooh that BUZZ… that HIGH! There’s nothing like it. You rush into a store and come out a broke (the “broken” part comes after you get your credit card bill, but that’s a gazillion years away anyway) woman, but the knowledge of the merchandise tucked and folded safely into those colorful and emblazoned shopping bags makes up for it. Pa-swing, swing pa. hahaha.

Mid-Year sales abound, I promised myself I’ll try to steer clear of malls, but then I heard myself asking the boyfriend to drive me to Mall of Asia. Being the clueless creature he is, he innocently accompanied me to the mall, but was wise enough to keep his trap shut as I rushed into store after store after store. To be fair with myself, I mostly just tried on stuff. When it says mid-year sale, it doesn’t automatically mean all the stuff on sale are great.

I did drop by Topshop, and nearly bought a pair of marked down pinstriped slacks from the Kate Moss collection, but the sizes left were too big. I saw a lot of shirts that I really wanted to buy, but then, I still couldn’t stomach throwing Php1000 on a shirt. I tried my best to operate more on buying what I needed rather than what I wanted. I have a blouse fetish, I have tons of blouses and shirts in my closet but I lack stuff when it comes to the bag and shoe department (which my mother vehemently disagrees on). Well, shoes I have, bags nope. I didn’t buy anything that fit into this category. I also dropped by Dorothy Perkins in hopes of seeing a dress that I was eyeing a few months back on sale. It was a big disappointment since most of the dresses were like 4 times too big. And I wouldn’t call myself exactly a petite girl. I didn’t buy a single dress on sale after raking my favorite stores in MoA.

But I did buy this:

belt from Terranova (P499 to P199)

The belt I mean, I bought that in Terranova for P199 (original price is P499 I think), the blouse I bought in a tiangge somewhere in Hong Kong two years ago. I’ve been looking around for a belt to match it since I wanted to wear the blouse but also put some shape into it. I also bought a smiley bag for my mom, but she’s loaded it with stuff already so I’ll have to take a picture at a later date.

Believe it or not, the belt and the smiley bag were the only ones I bought from the sale. I was mulling over buying the boyfriend jeans in the new arrivals section of Terranova, but they were priced at P1799. A little too steep for me. But in one psychotic moment I knew I just had to have it, so I turned around and made a dash for Terranova, but caught a glimpse of a cute dress in People are People. I don’t usually shop in People Are People ever since my family and i went to Bangkok and I stumbled over a pair of slippers in one of the rummage sales in the STREET, and it was for like 5o Baht which is around P100 at the most in pesos. I didn’t buy it because it was too dainty for my taste. When we got back to Manila, I saw a pair of slip ons with the same design and material in People Are People for like 6 times the price in Bangkok.

Anyway, for some reason, I walked into the store and saw a dress I don’t need. I bought it. It wasn’t even on sale.

dress from People are People

Sorry for the grainy pic, I suck at taking pictures in low-light settings. Anyway, there’s nothing really extraordinary about this dress, but I was weirdly drawn into trying it out. I squealed how good it looked on me (me in a dress is a rare sight), my mom even had to admit that it was well worth it despite the hefty price tag (P1199).

Another thing that I bought that wasn’t on sale, but I really needed a refill for my Ideal Balance compact. L'Oreal Ideal Balance

I have to admit that it took me a while to get used to the idea of spending on make-up. But it’s really worth it. I bought L’Oreal’s Ideal Balance for P945 last August, and I’ve only started running out of it now. I only have to use it once, or at the most twice in one day and it keeps my skin tone looking even. Ideal Balance is well.. ideal for people who have oily skin, my T-Zone is usually the oily part but I still bought Ideal Balance because I have morena skin and the shades in this line are darker. L’Oreal has another line called Perfect Match for combination skin, it works just like Ideal Balance except it’s more appropriate for lighter-skinned people and also if you have combination skin. The refill goes for P745.

I saw their mineral make-up on display also. I’m still in the dark when it comes to mineral make-up so I asked the bored-looking saleslady what’s the difference between regular make-up and mineral make-up and she replied “that’s for sensitive skin po” with an equally bored voice. Call me a bitch, but if I intend to spend, I want a salesperson to deliver a sales pitch with an enthuiastic voice so I can wave her away and just buy that concealer I’m eyeing before I get distracted by the thought of how bored-looking the saleslady is.

4 times bigger you say? I wish the same sentence could apply to me..
.. no, wait.. lemme do that again.

The same sentence DOES apply to me!
-saying it with affirmation will make it true.
