Ten years ago…

Category: Books, WIN THIS!Minay @ 10:40 pm

… I was 15 years old. That might be a dumb way to start this entry (which I’m writing because of this), but yes I was 15 ten years ago, insecure, and in need of validation of my existence just like any ungrateful and ‘emo’ teenager. I dabbled on dating, moaned about my thighs, suspected conspiracy from school and parents, and blew my pocket-money on books. Lots of books. I hated my life but unwilling to admit it because at the back of my mind I knew that was a stupid thing to think of. I had a loving mom, siblings, and enough to buy what I wanted from time to time.

I never thought that books would lead me to my profession now. I am a writer by profession, but always felt like a fake although I have published enough works to qualify as one. I have always told aspiring writers to read, read, read. Books took me to far off places, it enabled me to have imaginary conversations with the long-dead. It gave me different viewpoints, helped me learn to embrace a villain, disdain the distressed damsel, and use an idiosyncratic word in a sentence. Books are basically the product of writers’ brains, so who better to teach writing other than Shakespeare, Austen, Lovecraft, etc.

Music was my first love that refused me, and books were there to welcome me with open arms, employ me even. I never joined writing contests, or joined the student paper until I hit college. I was too much of a scaredy-cat to plunge into music, and I was not much of a crowd person to take up mass communications. I knew my mom loved me when she told me to take up journalism. Haha. Journalism is not the first thing that comes to mind when you want your daughter to ensure you of a mansion and die beside a sparkling swimming pool, sipping pina coladas served by buff butlers wearing nothing but a thong and a bow tie. But she knew that I loved to read, and I might have a future in anything related to writing.

I love books, and I like writing. See the difference? Until I come to terms that me and my craft are meant to be, I’ll continue finding solace in books. Particularly Neil Gaiman books. So gimme that prize!

Click on the link above if you love Neil Gaiman as much as I do, or not because that would mean more competition for me. If you join you get a chance to win this from Avalon.ph:

Sick but still went crazy for crocs

Category: Events, Retail Therapy, WIN THIS!Minay @ 8:06 pm

I’m sorry for the lack of updates, but I’m SERIOUSLY sick and I have to take some time off to do all the med stuff, check-ups, and whatnots. That only goes without saying that I have to take some time off work too! NOT! (Well for several projects I’m doing I can’t really take time off).

Anyhoo, before I was dramatically rushed to the hospital, I went to the launch of ‘Crazy for Crocs’ in Hard Rock Cafe Makati. Hehehe.

Crazy for Crocs

Crazy for Crocs

While working for a sports magazine I remembered handling a LOTTA crocs, and I’m trying to figure out now why I like Crocs, and it only hit me now that I liked working with Crocs people before. Take note that I handled a lot of PRs and products to the point that I can look at a pair of rubbershoes and just know the brand, even sans the logo. Crocs people are plain nice. I have two pairs, and another one which I acquired through a review I made for them.

Going back, one thing I forgot to tell you about me being sick was it pretty hurts to take a deep breath, sit-up, and LAUGH now. So it didn’t help that the special guests for the night were Moy Moy Palaboy and I-know-this-is-rude-but-his-partner’s-name-always-escapes-me-and-I’m-too-lazy-to-google-it.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved the pair ever since I first saw them perform in Bubble Gang, but I was laughing and crying at the same time during their performance. hahaha.

Regarding the Crazy For Crocs, it’s actually a competition composed of three main components: an online video challenge, a Grand Raffle, and a Pick-a-Prize. At the heart of the campaign is the online video challenge where people can show their fun and crazy side in youtube. You can use any video equipment, even your phone!

Contestants will be tasked with performing various Crocs-themed video challenges to be issued by the DJs from Magic 89.9’s Good Times radio show.

New challenges will be announced each week and each month on the official contest website, crazy4crocs.com. Participants will have to beat these challenges and capture this on video. These videos will then be uploaded to YouTube, after which they will be posting as an official entry on the contest website.

Contestants to the weekly challenges will get the chance to win prizes such as Canon digital cameras, while contestants to the monthly challenges stand to win P100,000 each month. Oh *looks at fingernails* you might also get the chance to win a brand new Honda Jazz!

For more information, visit the website indicated above.

Now, in the loot!

I’m not going to do a rundown ‘coz there are so many. But I particularly like the red jelly camera. So cute and yummy looking!

Anyway, I’m sorry to say that I had to leave early that night and had myself hauled to the hospital. Please bear with me if I can’t update the posts for the meantime. But I don’t want to end this on a sad note, so guys, enjoy the long weekend, make that video ‘coz it’s no skin off your nose and you have everything to gain.

Happy weekend everyone! Down a margarita for me! *hugs*

Can you say GOOGOO?

Category: Retail Therapy, WIN THIS!Minay @ 6:25 am

…and GAGA? No, not Lady Gaga. Although she’s probably strutting her stuff now in some amazing outfit in Araneta.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga

I envy my friends who are probably singing ‘Poker Face’ now. :(

But what I’m talking about is the brand of kids’ apparel googoo&gaga. I don’t have kids, but knowing my style, they’ll probably wear these amazing creations by AJ and Audrey Dimarucot. Here are a couple of their ‘onesies’ designs:

Pink Peace by googoo&gaga

For toddlers they have these:

Funky Zebra by googoo&gaga

I want the Funky Zebraaaaaa!!!

Maybe I should tell them I have a phantom toddler and may I please order the Funky Zebra?

Anyhoo, the boyfriend is a San Beda boy through and through. So he’ll prolly go for this design:

Lion Mood Swing by googoo&gaga

Lion Mood Swing by googoo&gaga

But I don’t think I can get away with telling the owners it’s for my phantom baby boy because the boyfriend is quite a large guy. Haha.

googoo&gaga has a special process in printing the designs which isn’t really available here in the Philippines. But the surprising thing is, their products are reasonably priced. The products are around P600 to P700 only. Or even less. A small price to pay for uniqueness. I know my phantom baby won’t know what he’s wearing is unique, but what matters is I DO.

AJ is the one who designs the clothes, and from what I hear, he is quite well-known around the graphic artists circles. Get a chance to win one of his designs that is competing in Design by Humans.

In the words of Audrey, AJ’s wife, here’s how:

To kick off our almost 1st googoo&gaga birthday, all you need to do is to please vote for his [AJ's] design “Twilight Rain” over here .

IF AJ WINS THE GRAND PRIZE, we will give out Twilight Rain shirts to 5 sets of parents (one for mommy and one for daddy, of course!) chosen randomly from the votes and comments we will see on the DBH site. :)

IF HE DOESN’T WIN, we will still give 5 googoo&gaga gift packs for your adorable little ones chosen randomly from the votes and comments we will see on the DBH site.
-Audrey
