ANNOUNCEMENT: The LeBeouf – De Ungria Wedding Reception Will Be Held in SG

Category: UncategorizedMinay @ 11:00 am

What: De Ungria * LeBeouf Nuptial

Date: When Karmina finally meets Shia

Venue: Singapore Botanic Gardens

Time: Stay tuned!

Reception will be held at the Halia Restaurant, Ginger Garden.

HAHAHA.

If you intend to stay for quite some time in Singapore, do drop by the Singapore Botanic Gardens, especially if you’re with your family.

Since we are a family who loves a good hearty meal (I love to eat, it’s just that I’m more of a ‘nibbler’), we decided to stop at this little restaurant, Halia, in the Orchid area of the Gardens.

I was immediately taken in by the restaurant. Imagine surrounded by all these trees, and flowers, and little squirrels… and GREAT food! I want my wedding reception here! Now if only Shia would… hahaha.

Anyway, it was more of a ’snack’ time when we ate there, so I wasn’t really craving for a heavy meal. The nice and attentive waiter recommended the soft-shelled crabs as appetizers. Yummy and would make a great pulutan!

The crabs all but disappeared in a few seconds.

Like I said, I wasn’t that hungry so I just ordered dessert and coffee which I promptly regretted when the waiter brought in my aunt’s order:

Grilled Minute Beef Steak (S$18)

Grilled Minute Beef Steak (S$18)

Mouthwatering noh? It’s beef steak with sauteed swiss brown mushrooms, onion marmalade, and roasted tomatoes on Ciabatta Bread. It was delicious! The meat was tender, the brown mushrooms were really JUICY, and i have always adored roasted tomatoes. The ciabatta bread was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. It made a great contrast with the tastiness of the meat and the slightly salty taste of the mushrooms.

But my favorite by far was this:

Halia's Kurobata Char Siew & Wanton Capellini (S$20)

TASTY! Oh my, the only thing I really know about food is shoving it into my mouth. This dish is so addictive! Angel Hair pasta topped with premium sliced pork with traditional siew honey soy marinade and sambla chili and XO sauce. The waiter said this is one of their house specialties… it wasn’t hard to believe him. The pasta was cooked just right, and the pork was so tender… okay I’m making myself hungry.

The Gremlin, like me, ordered dessert. I didn’t get to try it out since well… you know how boys are. They inhale food, not chew it. Here was the gremlin’s order:

Cappucinno "Dunking Pit" (S$10)

Cappucinno "Dunking Pit" (S$10)

I didn’t get to try this out but the gremlin couldn’t stop smiling after taking a bite. I checked the menu and it said that the “Pit” is composed of.. ready? “layers of warm chocolate, cool vanilla cream, and iced coffee shavings with brownie dunkin’ cookies.”

Bliss… coffee and chocolate! Two of my favorite things in one dessert. :)

My order was this:

caramelised banana & vanilla custard crepe (S$12)

It deserves a close-up don’t you think?

The Wayward Walnut :)

The Wayward Walnut :)

It’s a dessertlover’s DREAM. The crepe was soft and warm, the custard just had the right amount of sweetness, and the clotted chocolate gave it a pleasant sweet kick. The toasted nuts were delicious *closes eyes*. And what made this meal all the more special? I topped it with this:

Iced Mocha

Iced Mocha

Ahhh LIFE IS GOOD. :)

Halia = Malay for “Ginger”

Watch out for updates on our wedding! Shia is resting after filming and promoting Transformers. My baby is such a hardworker…

The Vampire and The Werewolf: who are you rooting for?

Category: Retail Therapy, UncategorizedMinay @ 8:45 pm

Campaign for the vampire or the werewolf with these cool tees!

Team Edward or Team Jacob?

Team Edward or Team Jacob?

With the tee-craze in the Philippines, tee designers were quick to latch on the Twilight trend with Team Edward or Team Jacob tees. But I never bought one, it’s nice and all but I just can’t get the impulse to buy one. Until I came across that picture (see above), in www.peoplestylewatch.com, it’s a peek of Nordstorm’s new collection of New Moon apparel.

The line will compose of tees, hoodies, dresses, and even jewelry! I like the ones in the picture, it’s very casual and looks comfy. However, it’s going to be a long wait for Twi-fans as the collection will only go on sale in October at Nordstrom.com.

As for the team I’m rooting for, I’m all for Team Jacob in the book (Lautner is cute but the Jacob in my imagination just can’t compare). In the movie, I’m an Edwardian through and through. :)

How about you? Team Edward or Team Jacob?

Of Angels, Pegasus, and Mango

Category: Retail Therapy, UncategorizedMinay @ 9:53 am

I’ve always loved the androgynous look and has been going for that look for a while now without noticing it. Here was my outfit today:

White shirt from tiangge (P100), slacks from Bangkok, Zara shoes (S$99), Serengetti shades (no idea, it's twice my age!), Mango Pegasus Wing Necklace S$19

Here’s a close-up view of the shoes: shoesI usually partner this type of outfit with the oversized blazer I bought last year for P300 in some nameless bazaar. Its cut is similar to boyfriend blazers but when I bought it, it was just an overrun, oversized blazer that my mom hated. Haha. I’ll post it next time. Anyway, I usually nick my brother’s belt (his polos, his shirts; he in turn nicks my sports watches) when he’s not using it because it pulls the outfit together. Anyway, the gremlin was using it, so no belt.

My boyfriend’s cleaned out their garage a couple of months ago and they found the shades I’m wearing in the picture. It belonged to his grandpa who died. I don’t mind. They loved their grandpa a lot. Along with the Serengetti shades, he also gave me vintage RayBans and a Perry Ellis pair. But that story is for another post.

The pegasus wing necklace immediately caught my attention in Mango while we were walking around Suntec. Yes, it’s S$19, a lot of money for a fake bling, but it was originally priced S$35, and I really really have a fascination for jewelry that resembles angel wings. I also saw a pair of delicate angel wings earrings in Aldo for S$13, but it looked TOO delicate.

The pegasus wing is kind of too-big for my taste, but I still love it! To complete the look I strapped on a watch from Tomato. It’s cheap! I bought it in Tomato two months ago I think, and they had these strappy watches with big faces. Don’t expect though that the watches are durable. The one I bought stops for no reason at all once in a while, and the little clock faces within the watch? It’s just for display. haha. :)

Haha. Sorry for the upside down watch.

Here’s my first pair of angel wings necklace bought from ebay two years ago more or less. I can’t remember how much it cost, around US$50, mostly because of the shipping costs.

I’ve used the necklace so much that the coloring has faded. Hay, the shot looks so GREENISH I hate it. But I really suck at taking photos in poorly-lit settings. I manage to hit (shoot?) a jackpot every now and then. Anyhoo, another thing I bought in Mango:

Mango shoulder bag (S$15)

Mango shoulder bag (S$15)

Original price: S$50. This isn’t really my style. I like big bags since I seem to always bring half of our house with me whenever I step out. But It’s just S$15 anyway, and I think I should try to discipline myself with such limited ‘baggage’ space. It’s been said more than once that carrying around big shoulder bags is bad for the health.

This weekend I plan to raid the boyfriend’s closet for literally, boyfriend, outfits. But my boyfriend is a 6-ft, 200+ pound guy, hope I find something. The last time I raided his room, I got me new (vintage) shades.

RayBan shades. I have no idea what the model is, anyone?

I guess that’s it for now. Time to turn in. :)

Tweeting in Zara

Category: UncategorizedMinay @ 11:57 am

Just to get a jumpstart on the stuff I shopped in Singapore, I’m sharing this with the hope that you won’t turn into a birdbrain like me in the face of wallet adversary.  Believe me, it wasn’t a pretty experience. More like a nightmare. Imagine you’re Becky Bloomwood and you’re in the middle of a street. And both sides of the street are lined with malls. You clap and jump in delight, reach for your purse…

…and with horror you realize it isn’t there. Or maybe you run into a random mall and you discover you’re in some parallel universe where people pay in peanuts and salesladies giggle embarrassedly or look pityingly at you when you hand over a hundred smackers, or worse, you discover credit cards have never been invented.

Nah, none of these happened to me (duh, I don’t even have a credit card), but since the trip was a spontaneous one, I didn’t have a lot of cash with me. I reassesed my belief that our country has too many malls; the famous (or infamous, depending on you) Orchard Road is lined with malls that can make Ayala’s malls look… amateur. But that’s a post for another day ‘coz it’s 3am and I need to catch up on ZZZZzzzs. Here’s a peek of some of my stash.

Hat from Rip Curl (Original Price:S$60, Sale: S$39), Zara peeptoe shooties(?) (Original Price S$200, Sale:S$99)

Hat from Rip Curl (Original Price:S$60, Sale: S$39), Zara peeptoe shooties(?) (Original Price S$200, Sale:S$99)

The hat is for the boyfriend. Shoes of course, are for moi. I didn’t plan to buy it. I walked around Zara, saw lots of stuff on sale, saw the sales tags, and immediately went for the exit lest I get tempted into buying a $60 dress. My companions dawdled over some stuff so I reluctantly stationed myself near the exit to wait for them. BIG MISTAKE. Located near the exit were marked down shoes, tried out a pair, checked the orange sale tags, and started taking off the shoes when my aunt suddenly appeared behind me and chirped “buy it!It looks good on you”, the second bird then chirped “go! go! it’s rare you buy nice shoes anyway, the third bird appeared and tweeted “wahaw! those shoes make your legs look long! buy it”. I started to gesture and cock my head side to side, chirping madly that I shouldn’t. Couldn’t. Wouldn’t. But what could I have done? It was three insistent birds against one.

Clutching the shoes, I flew over to the two harassed salesbirds in the check-out counter and fell in line with other little birds of all shapes and sizes but with similar glazed looks in their eyes. Upon reaching the counter, I handed over a hundred birdseed to the salesbird with the glasses who wordlessly wrapped my shoes and handed it over to me; I then flew quickly out into the night, Zara paper bag flapping in the wind.
