Picture Book: Chinatown

Friday, August 28th, 2009

I recently found out I can’t have a life til’ Thursday. My doctor advises lotsa bedrest. But what she doesn’t know is that staying in one position the whole damn day will just stress me out. *sigh*

On the bright side, my wifi unit is working again. *twirl*. Hehehe.

Here’s a couple of pictures of Singapore’s Chinatown that I’ve been meaning to share.  Hope y’all like it.

Sick but still went crazy for crocs

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

I’m sorry for the lack of updates, but I’m SERIOUSLY sick and I have to take some time off to do all the med stuff, check-ups, and whatnots. That only goes without saying that I have to take some time off work too! NOT! (Well for several projects I’m doing I can’t really take time off).

Anyhoo, before I was dramatically rushed to the hospital, I went to the launch of ‘Crazy for Crocs’ in Hard Rock Cafe Makati. Hehehe.

Crazy for Crocs

Crazy for Crocs

While working for a sports magazine I remembered handling a LOTTA crocs, and I’m trying to figure out now why I like Crocs, and it only hit me now that I liked working with Crocs people before. Take note that I handled a lot of PRs and products to the point that I can look at a pair of rubbershoes and just know the brand, even sans the logo. Crocs people are plain nice. I have two pairs, and another one which I acquired through a review I made for them.

Going back, one thing I forgot to tell you about me being sick was it pretty hurts to take a deep breath, sit-up, and LAUGH now. So it didn’t help that the special guests for the night were Moy Moy Palaboy and I-know-this-is-rude-but-his-partner’s-name-always-escapes-me-and-I’m-too-lazy-to-google-it.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved the pair ever since I first saw them perform in Bubble Gang, but I was laughing and crying at the same time during their performance. hahaha.

Regarding the Crazy For Crocs, it’s actually a competition composed of three main components: an online video challenge, a Grand Raffle, and a Pick-a-Prize. At the heart of the campaign is the online video challenge where people can show their fun and crazy side in youtube. You can use any video equipment, even your phone!

Contestants will be tasked with performing various Crocs-themed video challenges to be issued by the DJs from Magic 89.9’s Good Times radio show.

New challenges will be announced each week and each month on the official contest website, crazy4crocs.com. Participants will have to beat these challenges and capture this on video. These videos will then be uploaded to YouTube, after which they will be posting as an official entry on the contest website.

Contestants to the weekly challenges will get the chance to win prizes such as Canon digital cameras, while contestants to the monthly challenges stand to win P100,000 each month. Oh *looks at fingernails* you might also get the chance to win a brand new Honda Jazz!

For more information, visit the website indicated above.

Now, in the loot!

I’m not going to do a rundown ‘coz there are so many. But I particularly like the red jelly camera. So cute and yummy looking!

Anyway, I’m sorry to say that I had to leave early that night and had myself hauled to the hospital. Please bear with me if I can’t update the posts for the meantime. But I don’t want to end this on a sad note, so guys, enjoy the long weekend, make that video ‘coz it’s no skin off your nose and you have everything to gain.

Happy weekend everyone! Down a margarita for me! *hugs*

Got Heart?

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

…then drop by this event and help raise money for the Got Heart Foundation. If you’ve got a hankering for some authentic Italian frozen yoghurt, and a bit of anime, then DO drop by on August 30, 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the Shangri-La Mall. The event, dubbed as “The White Hat – Alodia and Ashley Gosiengfiao dress up for charity” will have the two cosplay stars *groan* (men AND boys, please this is your chance to use your testosterones for charity, hand over the bucks first before oggling ok?) serve customers in costume to raise money for their beneficiary, the Got Heart Foundation.

Freeway National Artist Collectors’ Series

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Yesterday I dropped by The Row @ Glorietta 5 for the launch of the Nick Joaquin chapter of Freeway Art’s National Artist Collectors’ Series. It was packed when we got there, but I could hear readings of some of Nick Joaquin’s works from our cocktail table outside.

It was brilliant of Freeway to feature National Artists. Not only do they get to promote the works of some of the people that best defines our culture, it enabled them to reach out to the younger generation through one of the languages that the youth know best, FASHION. And with all the brouhaha surrounding the National Artist proceedings now, we need projects like these more than ever to raise the profile of what makes and deserves the title, National Artist.

The work of Nick Joaquin’s that is closest to my heart is May Day Eve. Its haunting quality and richness of the text never left its impact on me after I first read it in my freshman high school year.

During the readings, A Bo’s coffee stand was on hand to provide refreshments and yummy pastries and sandwiches to the guests.

My favorites from the collection are these:

May Day Eve by Nick Joaquin Hoodie Jacket (P1495)

AND THIS ONE! I really like it.

The Years by Nick Joaquin Honeycomb Sublimation Dress (P1495)

Looks like sublimation prints are on its way in.

It would be interesting how they will interpret the works of other National Artists, but it looks like they served this round well.To see the entire collection, visit www.freeway.net.ph.

Now I’m off for a well-deserved massage. One more day people, and it’s a long weekend again. And to tell you the truth, it couldn’t come at a better time. Woohoo!
